Niels Lanz joined the sound department of the Ballet Frankfurt in 1993, where he had the opportunity to develop his skills under the artistic direction of William Forsythe in various productions such as EIDOS:TELOS, Endless House, Kammer/Kammer, and Decreation. In the late nineties, he began producing electronic music, including the music for David Dawson's The Grey Area and 00:00 for Het Nationale Ballet. From 2005 to 2011, he served as the head of the sound and video department at The Forsythe Company, where he won the prestigious New York «Bessie» Award in 2007 for the composition of Three Atmospheric Studies. Since 2012, he has been working as an independent sound designer and master of event technology for various productions, including the Avignon Festival, Biennale di Venezia, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Ruhrtriennale, and ZKM in Karlsruhe.
