Niels Mudde

As the assistant to the composer Thom Willems, Niels Mudde performs the music for One Flat Thing, reproduced live. He has a background in music composition and sound engineering, and has been working for 15 years as a sound technician and composer for theatre and dance. Currently, he is the head sound technician at the Nederlands Dans Theater, where he has previously collaborated with Thom Willems and William Forsythe. His interpretation of the composition One Flat Thing, reproduced resonated with the composer Thom Willems, prompting him to request Mudde to perform his work for the Nederlands Dans Theater, Ballet Vlaanderen, and now for the Staatsballett Berlin. Niels Mudde responds to the intensity of the choreography by blending various musical sources and repeating elements in a systematic yet improvised manner.
