Yannick Sempey
Yannick Sempey was born in Langon, France, and pursued his studies at the Toulouse Conservatoire and the International Dance Center Rosella Hightower in Cannes. He began his dancing career with the Basel Ballet and subsequently performed with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Zurich Ballet, Semperoper Ballet, and Opéra de Nice. He also attained his French state diploma as a ballet teacher.
For over a decade, he worked as a freelance teacher, teaching at Nederlands Dans Theater, The Forsythe Company, Cullberg Ballet, Goteborg Dance Company, Semperoper Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, Ballet National de Marseille, Czech National Ballet, Tokyo City Ballet, Ballet am Rhein, and Scapino Ballet, amongst others. He also worked with students at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Marseille, University of Dance in Stockholm, Ballet Academy in Goteborg, and the Tanz Biennale at the Palucca Schule in Dresden.
Sempey actively participated in the Nederlands Dance Theater Summer Intensive Program and the Joffrey Summer Intensive in New York on several occasions. For more than 15 years, he has been a regular guest teacher in Japan.
Yannick Sempey has served as a ballet master with Ballett Mainz, The Royal Swedish Ballet, and, since 2018, with the Staatsballett Berlin.
