Berlin, May 6, 2024 --- On May 11, 2024, 10 dancers of the Staatsballett Berlin will present their own choreographies as part of the evening Next Generation at the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Solos, pas de deux, and group choreographies covering a wide range of styles and themes will be showcased.

Nine choreographies by ten dancers of the Staatsballett Berlin will have their premiere on May 11, 2024 at the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. As part of the Next Generation format, ensemble members switch roles from dancers to creators. They develop not only the choreography, but also the music selection, stage design, lighting and costume design, as well as projections and props used on stage. Works by Gustavo Chalub, Aurora Dickie, Shaked Heller, Theo Just, Vivian Assal Koohnavard, Ross Martinson, Clotilde Tran, Pauline Voisard & Alexander Abdukarimov, and Dominik White Slavkovský will be featured.

Newcomers presenting their first choreography will be joined by experienced choreographers, as well as a collaboration between two ensemble members. Intimate solos and multiple pas de deux will be interspersed with pieces for four, six, or eight dancers. The performances will take place amidst inflatable plastic flamingos, on two tattoo chairs, surrounded by light paintings, or against minimalist design, all danced on pointe or barefoot. Acoustically, the range includes live piano accompaniment with music by Franz Schubert, as well as electropop, electronic music, and live spoken word. Thematically, abstract works, as well as political, philosophical questions, and surreal scenarios can be found.
